4G on the Moon? Hardware smaller than bag of sugar set to make it a reality in 2019

Hello there! Moon is set to get its first mobile phone network – 4G-enabled – in 2019.But future Moon dwellers can’t still dwell on the possibility of latching on to Whatsapp and Facebook from up above yet. There won’t be free Jio at launch too.According to Reuters, all that the network can enable for now is high-definition streaming from moon to earth. Vodafone Germany and Nokia’s network equipment will be working together to “develop a space-grade network which would be a small piece of hardware weighing less than a bag of sugar”, the news agency reported. The two companies have team up with the Berlin-based PTScientists for the project. The launch is scheduled to happen in 2019 via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket taking off from Cape Canaveral , Vodafone said.”This project involves a radically innovative approach to the development of mobile network infrastructure,” Vodafone Germany chief executive Hannes Ametsreiter said.
