MANAMA, April 26 (Xinhua) — The Bahraini king on Thursday ratified a ruling by the country’s highest court to commute death penalty to life imprisonment for four convicts, Bahraini Military Judiciary chief said.
Maj. Gen. Youssef Flaifel, the chief of Bahraini Military Judiciary, said that Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa ratified the ruling by Court of Cassation of reducing the death penalty to a life in jail term for four convicts.
“The relatives of the convicts expressed their appreciation and gratitude to the king for lessening the penalty,” Flaifel said in a statement.
The four are among a group of 13 men found guilty of terrorism charges, who also had their citizenship revoked.
Six of them, however, were tried and sentenced in absentia.
