Visakha, Sept.23 (NSS): The people were suspecting the killing of Araku MLA Kidari Surveshwara Rao and former MLA Silveri Soma was due to Bauxite mining. It may be mentioned here that the Maoists were demanding along with the tribal that stop Bauxite mining in agency area. The Maoists were also warned the public representatives in big way demanding the government to stop Bauxite mining in the area.
Nalco Company applied to state and central government for Bauxite mining at Visakha Agency Jerrila Block-1, 2, 3 and Gudem Kothaveedhi Mountains. The then Congress government issued G.O. for Bauxite mining. In later years, the Congress party lost power in the state and centre.
The NDA at centre and TDP government at state kept the Bauxite mining issue aside. The then chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu in 2004 made it clear that their government will not take up Bauxite mining hurting the feelings of the tribal. But, Dr YS Rajasekhar Reddy’s Congress government brought Rasal Khaima firm here to mine the Bauxite in agency. The Company set up unrock company at Rachapally in Makavaram mandal in Visakha district.
Khaima Company set this industry with Rs.6000 crore. Then only the Maoists opposed the Bauxite mining activity. It may be mentioned here that the tribal people expressed their concern saying that the forests were destroying with Bauxite mining in agency area. On the other hand, the Maoists were also thought that their survival will become a question if allowed Bauxite mining in agency area. Then onwards, Maoists were angry at the government. They were targeting the public representatives and now killed Kidari and Silveri as part of it.
