Hyderabad, July 14 (INN): Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President & Nalgonda MP Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy asked the party cadre to expose the failures of TRS Government in handling Coronavirus situation in the State as part of ‘Speak Up Telangana’ campaign being launched on July 18.
He reiterated the demand that the State Government include Covid-19 treatment in Aarogyasri scheme, pay Rs. 50 lakh ex-gratia to frontline warriors including health, sanitation workers, journalists and police personnel who die due to Covid-19 and Rs. 10 lakh ex-gratia to the families of all Coronavirus victims.
Addressing the party cadre through social media platform Facebook on Tuesday, Uttam Kumar Reddy and CLP leader Bhatti Vikaramarka said that the TPCC Covid-19 Task Force, headed by senior leader Marri Shashidhar Reddy, has decided to launch the “Speak Up Telangana” online Social Media Campaign to voice the concerns of the people.
They expressed concern over increase in the number of Covid-19 cases and deaths in Telangana State. He said the spike in Covid-19 cases was purely due to the failure of the State Government as it did not follow the ‘Trace, Test and Treat’ norm set by the World Health Organisation (WHO) since the beginning. They said it was unfortunate that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao went missing from action for almost 13 days at a time when the Coronavirus took the entire State into its grip. The Chief Minister did not even give an explanation as to why he went missing from the scene especially after giving an indication that another lockdown might be imposed to control further spread of Covid-19.
The Congress leaders alleged that TRS leaders, including TRS Working President and Minister K. Tarakarama Rao were trying to downplay the Covid-19 situation. They pointed out that Telangana was still in the bottom of States in conducting Covid-19 tests and also in recovery rate. They slammed KTR for stating that the death rate in the State was “Just 2%”. “KTR must realize that each number in the statistics represents a human being and a family. Life of each and every citizen of Telangana is highly precious and deserves to be saved. Instead of being apologetic for the rising number of deaths, Minister KTR is trying to defend his government by showing the death figures as low. Will KTR or any TRS leader give a similar statement if those 2% include a member of their family?” Uttam Kumar Reddy asked.
They said that the KCR Government did nothing to prevent the spread of Coronavirus during the last four months. Despite repeated requests by the Congress party, the State Government did not increase the testing rate. The health infrastructure was not upgraded during the lockdown period and today the situation has turned so worse that the staff of Gandhi Hospital, the frontline warriors against Coronavirus, had to go on strike demanding adequate payment. They said that many patients died due to lack of oxygen in big hospitals like Gandhi Hospital, Osmania General Hospital and Chest Hospital. The dead bodies of Covid-19 victims were swapped and many went missing. The present Covid-19 situation in the State is totally chaotic due to the mis-management by KCR Government, they said.
The TPCC Chief asked the party cadre to participate in the online social media campaign captioned “#SpeakupTelangana” to expose these failures. He said the campaign would be launched simultaneously on all social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, WhatsApp etc between 10 am and 5 pm on July 18.
