CPI decries lathi-charge on farmers

New Delhi, Oct.2 (NSS): The Communist Party of India today condemned lathi-charge on agitating farmers on the Gandhi Jayanti Day.

In a statement here today, the CPI said the farmers, who were on a peaceful march towards the national capital under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) raising their genuine demands including waiver of loans were stopped by police at the Delhi-UP border and beat up on a day when the nation was celebrating the birth anniversary of the Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi.

Earlier police fired teargas shells and used water cannons to stop the farmers from entering Delhi.(NSS)
