New Delhi, Sep 1 (Rahnuma) In a reshuffle on Sunday, the President announced new governors for five states in the country.

Kalraj Mishra has been transferred from Himachal Pradesh to Rajasthan, where he replaces Kalyan Singh as the new Governor. Bandaru Dattatreya replaces Mishra in Himachal Pradesh.

Bhagat Singh Koshyari has been appointed the new Governor of Maharashtra shunting out Vidyasagar Rao.

In Kerala, Arif Mohammed Khan replaces P. Sathasivam as the new Governor.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has been made the new governor of Telangana replacing E.S.L. Narasimhan.

The appointments take effect from the dates the new governors take charge of their respective offices.

Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan is a medical doctor and former President of the Tamil nadu Bharatiya Janata Party. She was a National Secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Party prior to this appointment.

She was born in Nagercoil, Kanyakumari District on 2 June 1961.

Her father Kumari Anandan, is a former Member of Parliament and senior congress party leader in Tamil Nadu.

Her husband Soundarajan M.D., Ph.D., is a medical Doctor Professor and Head of Nephrology, Saveetha University, Senior consultant Nephrologist Apollo Hospital, and Governing council member of Indian Council of Medical Research.

She pursued her MBBS at Madras Medical College, Chennai. Also pursued her obsterics & Gynaecology at Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai. She did a special higher training in Sonology and FET therapy in Canada.

Prior to political commitment she worked as an assistant professor at Ramachandra Medical College, Chennai for 5 years. She was a visiting consultant at many multiple hospitals.

Soundararajan became interested in politics from childhood, having been brought up in a political family. She was elected as a student leader during her studies at Madras Medical College. Though belonging to a leading, traditionally Congress Party family, she was attracted by BJP ideology and started working full-time for BJP. She served the Tamil Nadu state BJP unit in various capacities starting from South Chennai District Medical Wing Secretary in 1999, State General Secretary Medical Wing in 2001, All India Co-Convenor (Medical Wing For Southern States) in 2005, State General Secretary in 2007, State Vice-President in 2010 and elevated as National Secretary, All India BJP in 2013.
