GHMC to launch drive to collect scrap, disposable items from households from Nov. 3

Hyderabad, Oct.23 (NSS): On the direction of Municipal Administration &. Urban Development Minister K T Ramarao, the GHMC Commissioner has directed all the zonal commissioners, deputy commissioners and AMOHs to conduct a ten-day special drive to collect scrap and disposable items like broken furniture, mattresses and so on from the households within their jurisdictions. The drive will be conducted from November 3 to 12 to prevent dumping of unwanted disposable material into the drains by the public causing serious challenge of desilting of drains and also resulting in inundation of low-lying areas due to clogging of main drains.

The GHMC Commissioner said a venue  will be decided keeping in view the local requirements and conditions like Community Halls, Voluntary organizations, Self Help Groups (SHG) and NGOs, who can facilitate collection of the items from the public. He also suggested that wide publicity be given at Zonal level through all types of Media, Public Announcement/Beat of Drum and through local representatives as well as the Sanitation staff.   The Commissioner wanted all the Zonal Commissioners to personally prepare the plan, monitor and submit reports on daily basis. On completion of the drive, the minister  would conduct a review, he added.
