Harish urges Centre to amend guidelines for mid-level health providers

Hyderabad, Sept.27 (NSS): Minister for Health T Harish Rao has urged Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandviya to amend the guidelines and permit recruitment of candidates having the qualifications of BUMS, BNYS and BHMS as mid-level health providers in the health and wellness centers.

Harish Rao on Tuesday wrote a letter to the Union Health Minister, saying that the operational guidelines of Ayushman Bharat-Health and Wellness Centers stipulate that only persons having B.Sc. in Community Health or a Nurse (GNM or BSc) or an Ayurveda practitioner, trained and certified through IGNOU Medical Universities for a set of competencies in delivering public hearth and primary healthcare services are eligible to be recruited as the mid-level health providers.

He said that as per regulations of National Commission for Indian System of Medicine and National Commission for Homeopathy, BAMS, BUMS, BNYS and HMS are medicine graduation courses of similar nature with like duration rotational internship requirement.

However, the present guidelines permit recruitment of Ayurveda practitioners only thereby denying opportunity to large number of equally qualified medical graduates of other systems of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy, he pointed out.

Harish Rao asked the Health Union Minister to amend the guidelines and permit recruitment of candidates having BUMS BNYS and BHS qualifications mid-level heath providers.
