AMMAN, March 6 (Rahnuma): Jordan on Tuesday urged the international community to shoulder its responsibilities toward Syrian refugees and Jordan, the state-run Petra news agency reported.
Jordan is exerting its utmost efforts to provide services to the Syrian refugees in spite of the difficult economic conditions in the country, Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said at a meeting with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
“Pressure is increasing and the issue of refugees is still there. The number of Syrian refugees who returned to their country since the reopening of the borders did not exceed 13,000,” said Safadi.
Discussions also covered the Palestinian issue, where the two sides stressed that it needs to be resolved on the basis of the two-state solution that leads to the creation of an independent Palestinian state at the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Safadi said he briefed the Indonesian official on Jordan’s efforts to protect the holy Islamic and Christian sites in Jerusalem.
The Indonesia official underlined the importance of continued cooperation with Jordan and commended Jordan’s efforts in attaining peace and fighting terrorism.
She added that Indonesia plans to increase aid to the UN agency for Palestinian refugees.
Discussions also covered means to boost bilateral ties.
