Jordan’s king calls for ending Israeli violations at Jerusalem shrine

AMMAN (Rahnuma) — King Abdullah II of Jordan on Tuesday underlined the need to end the repeated Israeli violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem.

At a meeting with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, the king stressed the importance of the U.S. role in pushing the peace process forward, saying it was crucial to find a just and lasting solution that ends the Palestinian-Israeli conflict based on the two-state solution and leads to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The discussion also covered the situation in Syria and the need for a political solution that preserves the unity and the territorial integrity of the country and ensures the safe return of the refugees to their homes.

Meanwhile, Pompeo said the United States was keen to increase cooperation with Jordan and will continue working with the kingdom to enhance regional stability and security.
