Kenya promise revenge against Sudan in African U-23 Cup of Nations qualifier

NAIROBI (Rahnuma) : Kenya has every chance to turn around their 2-0 deficit and overtake Sudan in the battle to win a ticket to the Africa Under-23 Nations Cup finals, which will be held in November in Egypt.

Head coach Francis Kimanzi has made a rallying call to his troops, nicknamed the Emerging Stars, upon his arrival from Khartoum on Friday to charge at their rivals and trample them in their return leg match in Nairobi on Tuesday next week.

Kenya fell 2-0 in the first leg, a result that Kimanzi termed disappointing, with the boys having given a good account of themselves.

“It’s a game that I think we were unlucky not to have picked up something. We gave out our all and I believe we should have had a better result,” said coach Kimanzi.

He also noted that the result is behind them and that the team is focused on Tuesday’s return leg.

“We still have a chance on Tuesday in spite of the two-goal deficit and I am confident that we’ll get a positive result,” he said.

Should Kenya be successful to overturn the scoreline to their advantage, then they will face off with either Libya or Nigeria in the third and final qualifying round.

The third round winner will grace the Africa Under-23 Cup of Nations, set to be held in Egypt in November.

The tournament in Egypt will act as Africa qualifier to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games in Japan.
