Hyderabad, Sept.10 (NSS): Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development KT Rama Rao on Tuesday launched a special drive on sanitation by clearing the trash and old and defunct items from his home. He also cleared all the water stagnation sources at his home along with Mayor Bonthu Rammohan.
Speaking on the occasion, Rama Rao said eradication of seasonal diseases would be possible only with community participation. He poured oil in flower pots and other water stagnation sources at Pragathi Bhavan to keep mosquitoes at bay. KTR exhorted people to focus on ensuring cleanliness and hygiene in their neighborhoods. He asked the people to make sure there was no water stagnation at their homes. Mosquitoes spreading dengue lay eggs in fresh water locations, he pointed out.
He also called upon the elected representatives and government officials to participate in the drive and create awareness among people. Though civic bodies were doing their job by taking up fogging and anti-larval operations, community participation was must in containing the spread of seasonal diseases, he added.
KTR said everyone should maintain cleanliness at their homes regularly and give no room to mosquito problem. He asked the people to keep environs clean and maintain greenery to overcome pollution problem. Since the dengue and viral fevers are spreading and people are panic, the GHMC has taken up special drive in three phases, he said, adding that the officials were taking effective steps to end the problem.
KTR also said Health Minister Eatala Rajender and officials concerned were taking extra care to contain the spread of the viral fevers. People can keep at bay the problem by maintaining cleanliness at homes, he added.
