Netanyahu warns Israel has missiles able to reach Iran

JERUSALEM, Feb. 12 (Rahnuma): Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday warned Iran that Israel has missiles that could reach the Islamic republic.

Netanyahu, also Israel’s defense minister, made the remarks at the Haifa navy base, where he was briefed on Israel’s ongoing naval operations.

“I am very impressed by the navy’s aggressiveness, in building the force and using it,” he said, according to a statement released by his office.

The navy has both defensive and deterrent capabilities, the Israeli leader added.

Netanyahu also reiterated Israel’s position against Iran’s military presence in Syria.

“We are constantly working according to our understanding and the need to prevent Iran and its proxies from entrenching on our northern border and in our region in general,” he said.

Israel has become increasingly worried over the U.S. expected withdrawal from Syria given the presence of Iranian forces in the country, where they fight alongside Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s forces.

According to a recent White House statement, the U.S. army will withdraw its forces from Syria within “a few weeks.”

The Israeli air force has carried out hundreds of fatal airstrikes in Syria, saying the attacks target Iranian sites.
