Officials told to complete maintenance of road works by June

Hyderabad, March 4 (NSS): Chief Secretary Shanti Kumari held a meeting with officials of transport, Roads and Buildings at BRKR Bhavan here on Saturday and reviewed the status of the ongoing works.

Roads and Buildings department Secretary Srinivasa Raju gave an overview of the functioning of the department and said that reorganization of the department was taken up which has resulted in the increase in the number of posts in the cadre of AE/AEE.

The National Highway density which was 2.25kms/100 sqkm in 2014 is now 4.45KM/100 Sq Km in 2023. There has also been substantial progress in the laying of two lanes during the last nine years under National Highways. Double laning of State roads has increased from 6093 kms in 2014 to 12,060 kms in 2023 as per the directions of the Chief Minister, he said.

Providing double lane connectivity between mandal head quarters to district headquarters, capacity augmentation by way of widening to two lanes of some major district roads/ state highways, construction of bridges and formation of ring roads to major towns are some of the key initiatives and projects taken up by the department. Re carpeting of 1,170 roads has been taken up on top priority and works are going full swing, Srinivasa Raju informed.

On the occasion, the Chief Secretary asked the department to complete maintenance works on these roads on top priority by June.
