RIO DE JANEIRO (Rahnuma): Former Brazil international striker Ricardo Oliveira netted twice in the last 25 minutes to hand Atletico Mineiro a 3-1 home victory over Santos in Brazil’s Serie A championship on Sunday.
Oliveira’s one-time Selecao teammate Elias opened the scoring in the eighth minute before Inter Milan loanee Gabriel Barbosa put Santos on level terms just before the half-hour mark.
The hosts regained the lead via a 71st-minute Oliveira header and the 38-year-old added a second goal by deftly chipping over goalkeeper Vanderlei following Luan’s through ball.
The result at the Independencia Stadium in Belo Horizonte lifted Atletico to fifth in the 20-team standings, eight points behind leaders Sao Paulo, who beat Sport Recife 3-1 later on Sunday.
Elsewhere, Botafogo drew 1-1 at Parana, Chapecoense won 2-1 at home to Corinthians, Flamengo overcame Cruzeiro 1-0, Gremio routed Vitoria 4-0 and Palmeiras defeated Vasco da Gama 1-0.
