(RAHNUMA) A delegation of the All India Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC) comprising of 20 Sajjada Nasheens of prominent Dargahs across India met NSA Ajit Doval in Delhi on Monday. The term ‘Sajjadanashin’ is used chiefly within Sufi traditions.

Under the patronage of Hazrath Deewan Syed Zainulabideen Ali Khan Sahab, the delegation discussed with National Security Advisor Doval threats posed by ‘radical forces’ to peace and harmony in the country.

The delegation further highlighted that Dargahs have always played a pivotal role in the promotion of peace and harmony throughout the world, especially in India. Almost all Dargahs in India are ‘model national integration’ centres, they added.

Syed Naseeruddin Chisti, Chairman of the AISSC, requested NSA Ajit Doval to take measures to safeguard the rights, interests and privileges of Sajjada Nasheens. On behalf of the Council, Syed Naseeruddin Chisti also suggested the creation of an All India Dargah Board and the appointment of a Minister of State (MoS) for Dargah affairs.

Chief patron of the All India Sajjadanashin Council, Dewan Sahab Dargah Ajmer is also the spiritual head of Ajmer. He personally communicated to NSA Doval that radical forces are gaining prominence in India owing to the negligence of Sajada Nasheens and Sufi culture.

The AISSC chief also requested the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to represent the Council’s concerns before the highest level of the Government of India for the sake of peace and prosperity. In addition, the Council unanimously offered its full support in the fight against all forms of radicalisation.

Members of the delegation have also sought the formation of a national policy for the welfare and development of Dargahs where the rights of Sajjadanashin must be safeguarded.

“The NSA patiently heard views and assured of fullest cooperation in safeguarding the interest of every citizen of India. NSA appreciated the important role played by Muslims in nation-building and the pivotal role of Dargahs in promoting peace, communal harmony, love and brotherhood. He also assured to convey the issues discussed to the Government,” the All India Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC) said in a statement following the meeting on Monday.
