Telangana High Court gives green signal for municipal polls

Hyderabad, Jan 7 (INN): Telangana High Court on Tuesday rejected all petitions that challenged the schedule announced by the State Election Commission for conduct of municipal elections.

The petitioners, including TPCC President N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, had approached the High Court against the State Election Commission as it has issued the election schedule before the reservation of wards was announced. However, after hearing the case for nearly six hours, the High Court has rejected all the petitions clearing the way for conduct of municipal elections.

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission issued the notification on Tuesday evening. Therefore, now the municipal elections for 120 municipalities and 10 municipal corporations will be held as per the schedule announced earlier. The filing of nominations will begin on Wednesday (January 8) and 10th January will be the last date to file nominations paper. They will be scrutinised on 11th January and 14th January will be the last date for withdrawal of nominations. Polling will be held on 22nd January and counting of votes will take place on 25th January.
