TS Govt writes to CWC over Polavaram backwater objections

Hyderabad, Sept 27 (INN): The Telangana government wrote a letter to the Central Water Commission (CWC) on Wednesday, expressing its concern over the lack of action on the state’s objections to the Polavaram backwater project.

In the letter, State Engineer-in-Chief Muralidhar said that 954 acres of land in Telangana is being flooded by the Polavaram backwater and Andhra Pradesh has not taken any action on one of the nine issues raised by Telangana.

Muralidhar also said that there was a lack of coordination from the Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and that no action is being taken at the field level as reported by the Center in the Supreme Court.

The Telangana government has urged the CWC to fulfill the promises made in the CWC and PPA meetings and to take immediate action on the state’s objections.
